  Opening an old project to look at it does not convert it. It is the first save that takes it to the new release, and from there you cannot go back except from a copy.
• Linked models are upgraded together
  A project calling the structural and services models has to be upgraded with all its links at the same time, otherwise the references break.
• On a shared model everybody needs the same version
  Worksharing requires every workstation to have not only the same release but the same update installed. A machine one update behind does not get into the central model.
• Exchange with the others goes through IFC
  To deliver to someone on another BIM program you export to IFC: the geometry and the information arrive, the native parametric behaviour does not.
• DWG stays for the 2D sheets
  Anyone who only has to read plans and sections receives a DWG exported from the model, with no need to have Revit.
• Families carry their release with them
  A family saved from the 2027 does not load into a 2026 project. The practice libraries have to be upgraded along with the workstations, not afterwards.
• Before upgrading, look at who is around you
  Clients, structural engineers and services engineers are often one or two releases behind. The date of the move is agreed with them, otherwise you deliver a file nobody opens.
